Wowong Village was established as an autonomous village on December 17, 2005, through the initiative of community leaders along with the youth and coastal residents. It borders Mahal, Nilanapo, Walangsawah Villages, and the Sabu Sea. Wowong has agricultural, fisheries, livestock potential, as well as marine tourism. Its population comes from various surrounding areas that united to develop the village. Currently, Wowong has a kindergarten, an elementary school, and a junior high school, and has been led by Village Head Jubir Latif Leke since 2021.
Wowong Village has the potential for horticultural agriculture such as mustard greens, tomatoes, water spinach, beans, and cucumbers with a drip irrigation system. In addition, there is capture fisheries for bottom-dwelling fish in the coastal area, goat farming, poultry, and cattle. Economic empowerment is also carried out through a lontar weaving group (established in 2024) as well as a fish floss group involving the Family Welfare Movement (PKK) and village youth for sustainable business development.

Wowong Beach has white sand and the sound of waves. This beach also provides seating and swings. Not only does it offer beautiful scenery, but there is also a Nusantara Wowong market at the beach.

PROFILE OF THE UNIVERSITY OF SEBELAS MARET (UNS) SOLO REAL WORK LECTURE (KKN) University of Sebelas Maret Solo is one of the leading state universities in Indonesia that regularly implements the Real Work Lecture (KKN) Program as part of its character development and community service program. This program encourages students to live and work directly in the target village, identify local problems, and develop solutions based on existing potential using an academic and collaborative approach. During this period, the UNS Solo KKN team stationed in Wowong Village consisted of students from various majors—including Communication Studies, Development Economics, Tourism, and Arts and Culture—who were committed to contributing to the village's overall development The Wowong Village Head, who currently leads the village government, has a clear vision for developing local potential into an economic strength and village identity. With a collaborative spirit and concern for community welfare, he actively supports every development effort, including collaborations with universities such as UNS Solo. Through collaboration with the UNS Community Service Program (KKN) team, the Wowong Village Head hopes to create a Wowong Village that is independent, competitive, and capable of preserving and developing the local wisdom and culture inherited from his ancestors. He is also committed to ensuring that the results of this collaboration provide tangible benefits to all levels of the village community. The collaboration between the UNS Solo Community Service Program (KKN) and the Wowong Village Head has resulted in several important initiatives, including the Coconut Festival and the launch of the village website, Shopee PAI (Islamic Education for Indonesians), as well as a tourist map and village storybook. This collaboration is based on the principle of mutual benefit: students gain practical experience in community service, while the village gains access to knowledge, creativity, and networks that support sustainable development.
